    Position Summary
    The Advanced Practice Provider functions under standardized protocol approved by the Board of Directors at Stockton Cardiology Medical Group. The Advanced Practice Provider provides routine care and management of the patient with acute and chronic complaints in collaboration with the supervising physician and through implementation of standardized procedures. Specific functions pertaining to the Clinic are established by the Advanced Practice Provider and the supervising physician(s) and approved by the appropriate Medical Administrator.

    Major Areas of Responsibility
    • Evaluates and treats patients with acute and chronic cardiology complaints
    • Obtains complete histories and performs pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new patients according to standardized procedures
    • Obtains interval histories and performs pertinent examinations on return patients.
    • Performs or requests and evaluates diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient according to standardized procedures
    • Orders an furnishes medications according to standardized procedures and acquires counter signature on prescriptions from the supervising physician for medications not in the approved formulary
    • Performs designated procedures after demonstrated competency and according to procedures where applicable
    • Initiates arrangements for hospital admissions an discharges and completed the appropriate paperwork
    • Recognizes and consider age-specific needs of patients
    • Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds
    • Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary
    • Performs duty as Clinic RN as needed. Duties may include telephone triage, anti-coagulation management or assistance with diagnostic studies such as contrast echo

    Work Environment
    • Exposure Risk to Blood-Borne Pathogens
    Category 1: Tasks regularly involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. The potential for spills or splashes of blood, body fluids or tissues exists in job related tasks
    • The work involves considerable physical exertion such as frequent lifting of patients, equipment, bending, stooping and walking
    • Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, i.e., risk of exposure to contagious disease, radiation or infection, or working with emotionally disturbed patients.
    Precautions are routine for nearly all situations. The employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear
    • Can be very noisy at times
    • Good hearing essential, assisted or unassisted
    • Exposure to moving parts, cords, tubes and belts

    Supervision
    Supervision is provided by the attending physicians in the Clinic. In his/her absence, supervision will be provided by another physician designated as the supervising physician. Standardized procedures, approved by the supervising physician(s) are a mandatory mechanism of supervision. Other mechanisms of supervision used may be:

    • Direct or on-site supervision by a supervising physician
    • Review and co-signature of written medical records within 14 days
    • Reports to Nursing Supervisor, Administrator, Physicians
    • Chart screens on random charts by the supervising physician or designee
    • An annual performance evaluation by the supervising physician or his/her delegate, with input from the supervising physician(s)

    Education and Experience
    • Successful completion of an accredited Advanced Practice Provider program
    • Experience in fast paced environment

    Licensure / Certification
    • Current Physician Assistant Certificate, or RN license + current Nurse Practitioner Certificate, in the state of CA.
    • Certification in ACLS (Advanced Life Support) required
    • An Advanced Practice Provider with six months or more experience shall have a California furnishing number prior to hire, issued from the applicable board (PAB or BRN).
    • Current DEA number from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration for Schedule II-V controlled substances.
